Before starting a discussion/writing about SEO (Search Engine Optimization), I would like to introduce myself, as well as highlight the purpose of writing this detailed post/tutorial.
My name is Ashish Singla, and I am in this field for more than 5 years. In these five years, I read out many E-books, surfed a lot of sites related to SEO, and viewed many basic and advanced tutorials by different SEO experts. During this, the main problem I encountered was that whenever I googled any term, Instead of getting precise information regarding that term, I obtained various new terms and if I opt for searching those new terms individually, I generally mess up with many definitions.
After calmly searching to a great extent, I realized that I had gathered a lot of info regarding many terms and tactics about SEO but I was eventually confused about how these terms are linked together. Which method/process should we follow initially and what will be the benefit of that particular step. Hence, to simplify these issues, I decided to write a very simple article in Layman language so that everyone could understand and start the process of SEO with ease.
The main points I am about to discuss in this particular (I will continue further in next articles) article are:
- What is SEO?
- Why should we do so?
- How many types of SEO are there?
- What are the main points considerable, while starting up?
And a lot more…..
What is SEO
SEO is known as Search Engine Optimization. In basic terms, it is the process of creating your site in such a manner that it “Ranks Higher in Search Engines”.
Main Terms included in SEO (very basic) are:
- Website should be light weighted (opens/loads faster).
- It should be presentable according to Search Engines (like Google, Yahoo, Bing, MSN etc…)
- Users might be able to find the relevant information easily.
Why should we do SEO
We should do SEO of our site so that any content/information available to us might reach an interested one.
How many types of SEO are there?
There are a lot of ways to classify it. But I generally classify it in two ways.
Classification of SEO:
On Page SEO means to make/convert our site in such a way that google (or any other search engine) could read its content, structure and author easily. Although, I will explain it in detail later on.
Off Page SEO means to popularize our site on different sites, which include our own Social Networks and Websites of other users, by submitting our Website’s link (URL) on them. It also covers a lot of topics (like backlinks, Hosting location, valid HTML, Social Share signals and much more) which will also be elaborated.
This classification is based on the method we adopt.
- White Hat SEO
- Black Hat SEO
- Grey Hat SEO
White Hat SEO means to follow all the strategies of Google and promote your site. It takes care of our site as well as of those, where we are placing our link (since placing our website link/URL on other’s site is a part of SEO which I will explain later). It is a bit slower process since it requires everything in a proper and genuine way.
Black Hat SEO implies to Ranking Higher quickly without considering other’s site and google guidelines (but we have to follow some of the google strategies).
Grey Hat SEO is an optimization, which is the balance between WHITE HAT and BLACK HAT and hence, creates a line between the both.
Myths about Black Hat and White Hat: Some users state that use of different software that automates the process of optimization is Black Hat, whereas, working on manually is White Hat, which is not true. I will explain it later since I prefer not to confuse newbies now.
Main Points to be considered before starting the SEO
We should not spam others.
We should not think about ruining other’s website.
We will use software that makes our process easier but in such a way, that it might not become the cause of destruction/harm for the other.
Main point to be kept in mind is that, the purpose of Google Search Engine is to bring a useful and relevant content/information to the user, who is on search for a particular term.
We use search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. to get some information from sites over the internet which are not known to us. If any search engine fails to rank the deserving result on top then it makes no sense. That’s why each search engine tries to simplify as well as enhance the searching process so that every newbie and expert gets the relevant information for which he/she is searching for.
What is the sense of Search Engine, if they are not successful in providing the necessary information to the searchers?
Whenever a search engine rectify its searching process we call it “Update of Algorithm”
In every updates of Google algorithm, Google wants to improve its system such that it could rank down the spammer’s site and raise the true and proper informative websites.
